This privacy policy describes how DishCover ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the DishCover mobile application and related services (the "Service").
Information we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique account identifier and, if you choose to share it, your email address. We do not access your Apple or Google account password.
Menu photos
When you scan a menu, the photo is uploaded to our servers for AI processing. Photos are stored in our cloud storage (Vercel Blob) so you can access your scan history.
Usage data
We collect information about how you use the Service, including:
- Credit purchases and usage
- Chat messages you send about menu items
- Menu scan history and extracted text
- App version and device type
Data we do not collect
- Precise location data
- Contacts or address book
- Health or fitness data
- Browsing history outside the app
How we use your information
- Menu translation and AI features: Your menu photos and chat messages are sent to Google Gemini API for AI processing. This is the core functionality of the Service.
- Account management: Your account identifier is used to manage your credits, scan history, and preferences.
- Service improvement: Aggregated, anonymized usage data helps us improve the Service.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate the Service:
- Google Gemini API — AI-powered menu translation and chat (privacy)
- Vercel — web hosting and image storage (privacy)
- Neon — database hosting (privacy)
- Apple / Google — authentication and in-app purchases (Apple, Google)
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Menu photos and chat history are associated with your account and can be deleted upon request.
Your rights
You may request:
- Data deletion: We will delete your account and all associated data. Contact us at the email below.
- Data export: We can provide a copy of your data in a machine-readable format.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected such information, we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or via email if available. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
